Get the Most $$ for your Home!

After an extremely long hiatus from blogging, BoxCart is back with moving, storage, and packing tips! As a mover, BoxCart gets a lot of calls from people in the dreaded "decluttering phase" of selling their homes. Many people have been instructed by their realtors to get some of their stuff out of the house, and they're still not sure why...here are some tips to getting the most $$ for your home!

Showing your home is not as easy as it may seem. Potential buyers have a tendency to look in every nook and cranny. They'll look in your closets, your cabinets, and under your beds. Follow these simple guidelines to make showing your home a success!

  • Make a Good First Impression. Curb appeal is extremely important - a well-kept yard could be the difference between that perfect buyer making an offer or simply driving right by! Have your lawn freshly cut, the landscaping neatly manicured, and make sure the driveway and all walkways are clean and clutter-free.

  • Eliminate Distractions. Keep the entryway clear of any umbrellas, shoes, or overflowing coat racks. A nice welcome mat or foyer rug along with fresh flowers on an entry table will be much more appealing.

  • Less is More. This is the ever-popular "decluttering" step. Make your house the neatest its ever been. Clear countertops of clutter, including small appliances, Re-shelve books and display only minimal knick-knacks, so the potential buyers can visualize their own belongings in these spaces. Remove personal photos and other distracting decor, so they buyers look at your home and not your family vacation photos!

  • Make Space. Showing plenty of floor and wall space will make your home look and feel bigger.

  • Spic and Span. Nobody likes a dirty house. Clean from top to bottom, inside and out! If buyers see a dirty house, they'll likely wonder what else has been neglected, and they may keep on walkin'.

  • Be a Show Off. Highlight every feature of your home without shame - porches, alcoves, garages, and other storage areas are good selling features, but make sure these spaces are neat, clean, and organized. Let BoxCart help by storing excess stuff until you move!

  • Closet Case. Make closets look organized and spacious. Keep as many belongings off the floor as possible, and make sure the closet's vacuumed and tidy.

  • Lighten Up. Light gives the appearance of space. Open curtains and clean skylights. Remove anything that blocks the windows, and make sure all light fixtures have new, brightly burning bulbs.

Removing distractions and clutter is extremely important when showing your home. BoxCart Moving & Storage is here to help! Give us a call, and we'll guide you through the entire moving & storage process...from de-cluttering to the final move.
